Our Core Values

About our Core Values

Respect, Aspire, Thrive and Belong are the core values that embody our learners’ experience at Penyrheol Comprehensive School. Every Penyrheol stakeholder was granted a voice in shaping the core values of our school. They reflect what we represent as a school and they codify our unique ethos.

Our learners live these values.

Respect / Parchu

Our learners are friendly, kind and helpful and they appreciate and accept our diverse school community.

Respect encompasses the behaviours that learners demonstrate towards other learners, towards staff and importantly, towards themselves. Self-respect is the starting point from which learners can then respect others. Within our school, respect is shown through treating every member of our diverse school community with dignity, while valuing their contributions to the community. It is understanding that we each see the world through a different lens, but our differing perspectives are very often equally valid. We can learn so much from each other.

Aspire / Dyheu

Our learners have the drive and ambition to be the very best that they can be.

Aspiration is at the heart of everything that we do at Penyrheol. We inspire our learners to dream big and to follow those dreams. The culture of aspiration that we foster spans across academic, sporting, musical and cultural activities. We have high expectations of our learners, and we support and encourage them to have high expectations for themselves. Our learners are empowered to reach for the stars, to set themselves challenging, ambitious goals, and to always put huge efforts into being the best that they can be, the very best version of themselves.

Thrive / Ffynnu

Our learners grow, develop, progress and succeed in many aspects of school life.

To thrive in school means that learners grow, develop and succeed in school life. This could be in a variety of different ways. They could be representing the school in sports, drama or music. They could be developing their leadership skills through a learner voice role. They could be making great progress in learning form their own individual starting point. In thriving, they are embracing the full experience of school life and are on a journey of personal development.

Belong / Perthyn

Our learners feel valued, accepted and supported as part of our community.

Belonging is fundamental to our school’s identity. We cherish diversity and create an inclusive community where everyone feels valued, accepted, and supported. By building belonging, we create strong bonds that unite learners, teachers, staff, support agencies and families in a shared commitment to fostering educational excellence, personal growth and general wellbeing. Our learners have a strong sense of belonging in a school which is at the heart of our community. Our learners not only feel that they are an integral part of the wider school community, they also feel that they are able to play their own unique part and they value the opportunity to do so.
